Zen Gardens was inspired by 2 visits to Kyoto in 1992 and 1993 . The music in these recordings reflects what I experienced there : a blend of the mundane and the spiritual , of darkness and light . The sounds of the busy city world outside temple walls, the sounds of the daily workings inside, melded with the intense energy and discipline so rooted in these unique spaces . It is my intention that the sounds I have created here may make physical space seem bigger, feel airier . It is ambient music as defined by Brian Eno : " Music that rewards attention but does not require it. "
